>>>>(disjuct jump on 'down'} " Go on and try to tear me down {rising in pitch until---------------->> I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper" She goes down in pitch on down, She rises in pitch when she is rising from the ground. Just like a Skyscraper the climax. When Lyrics resembles what is happening musically we call it "Word Painting". (that will be on the test) The word painting of Demi Lovato's growth is painted in words every time she sings the hook of the song. Find your own examples of word painting in your favorite songs. If they are any good they are in there. Even Panic at the disco disjuctly uses Word painting, but again its own master class Lesson would be deserving. I did create a listening notes page to help organize thoughts and focus your listening. There is only 3 sections for motes. Instrumentation- Contour- and Music Theory. Instrumentation is what instrument is playing the melody, you should also include any word painting or lyrical analysis here. Word painting can actually appear in contour or Theory as well, but most examples will come from the lyrics. Music theory is where you will talk about motion and any other notable concepts (sequences, unusual chords, non chord tones) Song example-Sky Scraper Demi Lovato https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_8ydghbGSg Hope you learned something, BYE!">

How Melody uses Words to Paint Pictures

A melody is an "agreeable succession or arrangement of sounds." That is to say the best sounding part of the music. When we look at a melody it is the relationship between the notes moving vertically that creates a melody. Music in general is the Layering of patterns, so to identify a great melody you should have a pattern you can lend your ear to. The part you sing

The voice is considered the first instrument. Its the first one we all use in preschool and the first form of organized music was Gregorian Chanting music. "Chanting" is just one big melody.

You can talk about melody from 3 different perspectives; Contoue, Its motion and the Lyrics. understanding all 3 areas will help you understand what your singing, and how to explain why it sounds good.

Contour is the way the melody moves up or down (high or low). You don't need an understanding of pitch to talk about the contour of a song. In the Song example
The melody would be Demi Lovato. She starts the song in the lowest register (tone of voice) you ...

This is a Steel band performance I was in during college, and one of our favorite songs. Steel Drums originated in Trinidad and Tobago and is in the truest sense of the word. "freedom music". The young country was occupied by Great Brittan and they did not allow the citizens to use instruments. Being able to create your own music (your own culture) Breathes Independence; freedom for a country. By the 1930s The country was not only free but had an excess number of oil barrel drums. industrial waist left behind from the old regime. Cynthia Themes

In honor of the new Pokémon games I want to look at how Themes can be adapted to create different atmospheres using the same visuals. Watch my highlight video using Cynthia's theme. Then Watch it again but play the YouTube Classical version instead in the background. Which version fits the video better? Which version is your favorite? Which one would you listen to while playing Pokémon?

Kalinnikov Symphony No 1 in G minor

I been hearing lately for a call for higher art and my early post has been mostly related to elementary school high art. For divine art, Art with a meaning, Art that gives you a glimpse into the divine that encourage you to keep going and give what ever your doing your all. That is this symphony.

Vasily Kalinnikov written this from 1894 to 1895. He basically wrote it on his death bed after getting Tuberculosis which was considered certain death in those times. He moved to Yalta, a beautiful Resort city on the south coast of the Crimean Peninsula (small island) surrounded by the Black Sea. He was hoping the clean air would improve his condition as it was the only treatment one could hope for. He spent the year staring at beautiful landscapes. Nobody have heard of this brilliant composer and I encourage you to read more

Music, Stories, and structures

The Festive Overture was composed in 1954, by Dmitri Shostakovich.
An overture is what composers call a musical prelude, Originally used as an opening for ballets of operas in the early 17th century. this overture in particular is not tied to another specific work but acts as a stand alone piece.

The song as a whole can stand alone having a beginning middle, and end like any other stand alone idea. However, because it is relatively brief, host exciting themes, and fun to listen to it has became a famous concert opener for orchestras and wind bands around the world.

The preamble is to help you hear in music, like you read a story, the structure of what your hearing. Beginning, middle, end. to see this visually I added a fight from the Anime One Piece over top of most of the song. A choreographed fight scene, like a book, or a piece of music; also follows a basic structure. The beginning, middle , end. In musical terms you might hear: Introduction, Development, Ending or Coda

The entire...

The Anatomy of Melody

A melody is created then developed like a sentence. In fact, in most music theory books they describe parts of the melody as; sentence, periods, ect.

I describe it as such: Melodies are made up of smaller ideas called " Phrases". A repeating phrase (or melodic idea) becomes important in identifying the piece or song you are listening to. That specific phrase elevate the Phrase to what we call a "Motif". When the artist or composer, write a specific motif for a particular theme we call it a "Leit motif". The Leit motif was popularized by Wagner in his Operas because he was the first to have a particular melody represent characters. Or to be associated with situations elements or things. My favorite modern day example comes from TV shows more specifically Anime.

In the show One Piece each of the main Pirate crew of 9, and more characters, each have their own theme music. The first 5 seconds is a distinct melody, So you can identify which character it relates to immediately. They will even...
